Chelsea Transfer Ban Lifted by Court

Thursday, February 4th, 2010 author:Lisa Morelli

In September of 2009, football governing body FIFA disallowed football team Chelsea from registering any new players in the next 2 transfer windows due to Chelsea signing 18 year old Gael Kakuta from French team Lens in 2007, and allegations of Chelsea inducing breach of contract. Both of the clubs involved and the player had accepted the player’s contract with the French side was not valid, therefore the player in questions couldn’t have terminated it prematurely, meaning that Chelsea could not be liable for inducing it to be breached.

Chelsea has had their transfer ban revoked by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after reaching an agreement with the French side Lens over Katuka’s signing.
Chelsea’s club chairman Bruce Buck said on the Chelsea FC Website that “Chelsea were glad to have resolved the matter amicably”.
